I finally got through the application process for the opportunity get an apprenticeship through ETI in LA with Local 11. Last year, I did the same process through OCETI with Local 441. Ranked in the 80s on the POE list but my rank just kept dropping and never got a call.
This year, i enrolled in an electrical class at a community college which got my ET card. Other than this, my "formal" experience is pretty much zero. I have mainly worked in bars and managed and developed new bars over the last several years, also worked in aerospace for a few years during the shutdowns as an assembly and lay-up technician, spent several years at UPS before all this. Mechanically, I am proficient, in my opinion. I do all the work on our house and enjoy my woodworking projects due to my father who was a GC that specialized in cabinetry, i used to work with him all the time on the side. It also helps that i inherited too many tools!
With all that being said, I am extremely interested in becoming an electrician, I have been for years. Now I have a second chance to make that happen and I feel like i am more prepared now with the electrical program that I am taking in the meantime.
My question is, will it possible for me to get into this apprenticeship with my inexperience? I feel that I will most likely score high on my aptitude. Also, has anyone tried the methods that the Mad Electrician described on Youtube? Seems like he was in the same position that I am now before he got an apprenticeship in Portland ( https://youtu.be/IakF4Hsd6NI?si=V0Dma2EvKm-fUgIK ).
