One thing I started to notice while watching this series, is that even though the cinematography is unique for Star Wars, there's two moments in particular that I felt respected the cinematic legacy of George Lucas in a way that doesn't feel like it's pandering to the audience. The whole Narkina 5 arc looks similar to THX 1138, the film Lucas made before Star Wars. Thematically there's similarities too, where Narkina 5 is a commentary on the type of environment inevitably created for a workplace, THX 1138 is more generalised but still similar. The showrunners have effectively soft-canonised THX 1138 into the lore of the rebellion, and it's fantastic.
Later on, after Luthen's epic monologue, we see Melshi and Cassian running away from an Imperial search party. I couldn't help but liken the final shot to A New Hope. Instead of a Jedi rising up from the ashes of his family home in a sunset, we have two lieutenants in the making who don't even know that they've already signed up for the rebellion. While it's at night and a different shot overall, I don't think I'm crazy for seeing cinematic parallels.
Please share any other cinematic parallel moments in the series, because I'm sure there's more.
