My fiance is obsessed with pinecones and plushies, but nobody sells a pinecone plush big enough to cuddle, so I had to learn crochet.
My experience prior to this was two Wooble kits. My bbq grill is a pinecone maniac, she has a stash of them at her house and another stash at my house, stolen from parks like a neurotic squirrel. After she was scheduled for surgery I decided she needed a big fluffy pinecone to cuddle during recovery. I had searched online for one years ago with no luck, the only things close is a tiny discontinued Jellycat and a literal dog toy. So I went and bought a bunch of extra thick blanket yarn before I even had a pattern to use. I settled on this pattern by Crochet to Play, with Bernat extra thick blanket yarn, multi color leather for the body and brown for prickles.
Lots of trial and error, two smaller practice runs, and a botched stem that required unraveling and fixing the night before surgery. I did it! It's messy and some people don't recognize it as a pinecone, but I'm very proud of it!

Edit: Thank you everyone for your wonderful words and well wishes!
