Pixel Lens Camera Design

Just an observation.

If you are trying to minimize scratches, to the camera bump out, I strongly suggest a lens protector.

I have never used one before, primarily because I heard about potential flare, etc. But after four days of ownership my bump out has the absolute smallest of a tiny nick in the glass. Thankfully not interfering with any lens.

I have not been in any area that I'm aware of that could have done this but I must have. Maybe it rubbed against a key in my pocket? I cannot say for sure.

This is my first Pixel since a 2XL and I'm really enjoying it. A great phone overall. I sincerely love the design including the lens bump out.

In-between owning Pixels, I've used Samsungs and one iPhone. None of those ever had damage or a scratch to a camera lens. Such is life.

I purchased and received today lens protectors and installed one. Then I tried several different shots to check each lens. No problems, no flares (so far). This is not a commercial. I'm not naming brand. I'm only trying to share an experience with others so they can decide.

I'm certain there will be responses sharing that they've had no issues. Frankly I'm glad. Neither did I for over 8 years and multiple phones.... until I did.

Pixel 10 Pro XL - System Updates?

My question is about system updates.

My Pixel is new. A week old. First one since the 2XL. Was Samsung in-between. I am not a heavy CPU user. My wifi and data signals are strong. I mostly listen to music (Bluetooth ) and surf social media though out the day. A good 6 hrs+. Adaptive battery is on. Background on apps are all controlled as much as Google allows. That shared....my proper SOT (charge to 100% and no mini charging to impact results) is currently just a bit over 12+ hours.

I'd like to keep it there and reading posts about updating causing battery issues has me wondering just how bad my risk is turning off updates in developer options?

I do not download unknown apps. I do not use public Wi-Fi....ever. NFC is off. No one else is using my phone.

It's working again. For how long? Not the first clue. Hopefully forever.

TV watching was fine. I was streaming live off FUBO. Hit the back button to guide. Saw nothing I wanted. Pressed the home button and whammo....Google boot loop.

No firmware update involved. No new firmware was installed in a good long while (months).

What made it strange was pressing the TCL TV button brought up the guide and played fine. So did the Prime button access. It was strictly isolated to the Google TV home screen boot looping.

Basic solution is to unplug the TV for 10 minutes and press the TV power button that is under the TCL logo for 30 seconds. After 10 minutes, plug it back in (and if your TV was plugged into a power strip, plug it directly into the wall). It didn't work. Tried it three times hoping - but same result each time.

What fixed it was what I'll call the 'nuclear option'. Factory reset using Recovery. Unplug the TV. You may need two people for this next step. Press the power button on the TV )not remote) and also plug the TV back in. Hold the power button until recovery menu appears. Then use the remote to navigate to 'wipe data/factory reset' and select it. Confirm data reset and after it finishes choose 'Reboot system'. And...that worked.

Took 30 minutes to go through the setup wizard, add apps and settings and all is back. I have not the first clue why it happened and hope sharing the recovery process helps someone looking for answers.

I understand this TV has been replaced but I'm assuming TCL will not be improving their hockey motion handling on their newest Gen and this may be useful to other models also.

There have been times that streaming NHL Network on FUBO that games have looked amazing on the TCL. I'll go as far as say spectacular. But it's not consistent. It can look awful. And after using this TV for 6 months, I am convinced the TCL simply cannot compensate or adjust motion on lesser quality streams/bitrates. There is a solution that works.

I own an Nvidia Shield Pro and when TCL can't handle hockey motion, I stream FUBO through the Shield Pro (this is the flat box....not that crappy tube). Settings to use on the Shield Pro are 'enhanced' and 'high'. All hockey motion issues are fixed. Absolutely perfect.... given the universal limitations of miniled tech. Compared to my Sony LED, it's superior. No contest.

That's the solution. It has worked every single time (over 60+ games). Complaining that the TV should be able to resolve hockey motion is 'pissing into the wind'. You may be right. Complaining does not fix your hockey viewing experience. You could replace the TV, but that's more expensive than buying the streaming box.

I believe the Shield Pro is around $200.00. I paid 1800.00 for my 85". So all in $2000.00. A comparable Sony (Bravia 9) with no motion issue, at my time of purchase was $3700.00. So while spending $200.00 may hurt, it's cheaper than just buying the Sony.

FWIW the Shield Pro will also fix football ghosting issues (that are also related to streaming quality). Baseball has no issues on the TCL.

I've heard an Apple 4k can do similar but I don't own one. I can confirm the Shield Pro works. Other factors: Comcast 500 Mbs and FUBO. YMMV: No idea how the Shield Pro performs on other internet speeds and streaming options.

Not happy with the battery life or UI on the Pixel 10 Pro XL. Pictures are OK.

Considering either a new OP13 or OP15 to replace it.

My wants in order are:

Camera ( indoor frame worthy family pictures and some landscape ), Battery, Background optimization/notifications, UI.

I've had a Samsung s21u that needed replacing due to battery/updates and wanted something other than Samsung. Thought the P10PXL was the answer. It's not.

In the U.S. so choices are limited. Which OP would you choose if those were your priorities?
