I had an ablation for Afib last week. When the electrophysiologist came by in the recovery room to let me know how it went, she mentioned that I have permanent left SCV that is not causing any issues.

I have googled the condition, but the results are very much medical jargon and are over my head.

From what I could understand is that the heart starts off with two upper "intake" veins and as the heart develops in utero, the left vein disappears, only leaving the right one. But for some the left one remains. Relatively rare, but at the same time, completely harmless for most with it.

Now, when she visited, I was still not completely "sober" from the anaesthesia, so I might have misheard her: She gave me the quick description like I found googling, but it seems she mentioned that the vein coming from my left arm is the left SCV and is independent of the right one.

Is this a possible configuration of permanent left SCV? I will be having a followup with her in 3-4 months, but my curiosity is piqued.

Is there a website/document that is an ELI5 for the condition?
