My worst nightmare happened: people can now find my anonymous Substack by googling my name
To be clear:
- I NEVER used my full name, only first name in a few entries
- the publication name/ profile name is unrelated to me
- I have a relatively common name
I recently started trying to grow my writing publicly because unfortunately I crave artistic fulfillment and external validation.
And before anyone says: “well if it’s online it’s public”
Yes. I KNOW. Thank you. But there is a difference between strangers (or my friends) organically finding my writing vs. recruiters, classmates, coworkers, exes, etc.
I do literally overshare my life and delusions on it. So, i rather drown than have that visibility.
At this point I have: 1) panic spiraled, 2) made my substack private, 3)started a brand new anonymous Substack
So now i have approximately 13 followers. Lol
- has anyone successfully de indexed something like this?
- can you weaken the association between your name and a publication?
- and separately, if I abandon ship and restart anonymously, how do I regrow without accidentally doxxing myself again?
