Wowscape to Excalibur to Stormforge TBC, whats next?
Every year around summer time I get an itch to play WoW again. Maybe its some odd nostalgia as I started playing wow in 2007. I've only every played private servers and always come back to TBC.
OG's here will remember Wowscape - a glitchy, donor heavy, corrupt funserver. But, I loved it! Leveling was fun, loot was nice, and the population was amazing (I'm guessing in the thousands at the time).
Then I played on Excalibur TBC, between 2015 to around ?2017 -- great server, good population, gave me a more blizzlike experience. They also closed around ?2020?
Lastly, I played on Stormforge TBC -- started around mid 2024, but server died shortly after hitting the final expansion -- then they opened up a "fresh" server, and I was like, I'm not doing things from A to Z again -- that server, per my level 1 rogue, is also dead. Okay experience, but low population, and officially closing soon.
I've been tempted to play retail Classic - TBC, but I believe all of those realms are set to move onto WoTLK, possibly beyond. I'm partial to TBC because I just love Outland (again, maybe just the nostalgia) and the grindy aspect of the expansion (farming dungeons, getting badges, etc.), but it doesn't seem as though there are any highly populated TBC servers out there anymore.
I'm looking for thoughts and recommendations, should I just bite the bullet and play on retail or is there anything that matches in the private server space to fill the void of these servers?
