Hi, about two weeks ago my father was in the ED (i currently work at), it was my off day and I was at the bedside with him. I logged into my Epic app to verify his status in the ED with no intent of accessing his chart but as I was hovering over his name I accidentally clicked into his chart. I was out of the chart in less than 20 seconds once I realized. The privacy office sent me an email notifying me of an audit that showed I accessed a Family members chart. I emailed back explaining the situation and I made my manager aware. My manager was very nice about it and reminded me about policy but told me it’s up to the compliance office whether any discipline would be given. What do you think will happen to me? I’m so scared to lose my job.
