Hi all! My father was just diagnosed with stage IV prostate cancer. I’m very sad and confused. He’s only 63; but did have a family history. His PCP has checked his PSA annually. Starting at 45 yo, it has always been around 4 and very slowly increased to 6 over 15+ years. I finally asked his PCP why this hasn’t been looked into and they assured me it was likely BPH given the gradual incline + not “that” high. I insisted he see a urologist, even the urologist insisted it likely wasn’t anything but did an MRI just in case. And now here we are… Gleason 9 (4+5) and spread to lymph nodes and in his spine, pelvis, and femur. Otherwise, he is very healthy and active and we are all so stunned with this news. Any stage IV success stories? Or stories with low PSA yet aggressive? Also, they checked and it is typical adenocarcinoma. I’m concerned that it’s a worse prognosis with the low PSA but all of my research just says it’s neutral.
