Hello! Looking for some input from others with hypothyroidism/Hashimoto’s.
I’m not new to this diagnosis, but I am new to what just happened with my labs and I’m honestly a little confused.
For background, I was diagnosed about 10 years ago and was on T4 for years with very little improvement. Eventually I found a doctor who added T3, and along with going gluten and dairy free, I felt so much better. I was even able to come off medication for a while.
Then after I had another baby, it seemed to undo a lot of that progress. I had also moved and ended up with a new doctor who kept saying I was “borderline” and didn’t want to treat. After a few years of that, I switched providers.
She started me on 25 mcg T4 and 10 mcg T3 (split dose). I just had my 8 week follow-up labs and they actually got worse. My TSH went from 6.26 (unmedicated) to 18.7, and my Free T4 is low (went from 1.06 to 0.36).
This really threw me off, especially since I’ve done well on combo therapy before. Even my doctor was surprised. She’s adjusting my meds and also ordered a thyroid ultrasound, which I’ve never had before.
Has anyone experienced their TSH increasing after starting medication? Did it end up just being a dosing issue, or was there something else going on?
Would really appreciate hearing if anyone has had something similar happen.
