I spent so much time as a kid playing video games, and looking back those times seemed so magical. I spent hours on Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III, Mario Kart, etc.
Now I’m a dad, and my inclination is to show my kids the stuff I liked to do for fun because they might love it too. But I had a thought that gave me pause: maybe it’s better if I don’t introduce them to video games and just keep encouraging them to play outside. No question video games are pleasurable, but so is drinking and sniffing coke. Also, they may get exposed to them anyway though friends and that’s probably better.
Any of you with kids grapple with this? What did you do? If you showed them video games, how old were they?
EDIT: I have to work, so I can’t respond as much as I’d like. Thank you everyone for providing such good input!!!
