DDB Drop Spell Discussion

I feel like some of these spells are missing wording or are just plain weak.

* Astral Flood - There is no save for half. If the enemy passes, the spell does no damage, nor debuff. This seems really weak for a 3rd level spell competing with Fireball.

* Insidious Rythmn - Conc. and repeated saves for Disadv. on Int Checks and Conc. checks? Hex doesn't require a save, can give Disadv. on Int Checks and the added damage makes Conc. Checks harder to pass and can be swapped to a new target once they die.

* Leomund's Lamentable Belaborment - They must spend their turn discussing the topic, but it doesn't say it costs an Action.

The AMA implies that this is curated homebrew content that is not play tested. I really hope that in the future, they will do a balance pass before releasing.

The Entangle, Evard's Black Tentacles, and Grease all have an AoE of a Square.

Do these spells only affect creatures on the ground in the AoE? Would a creature hovering above the ground and not touching the ground not be affected by the spell?

Grease would be a thin liquid and have no real depth, but would the tentacles and vegetation of Entangle and Evard's Black Tentacles have a specific depth/reach in which they can restrain a target?

* IE: Are the tentacles 5 ft. long and able to gasp someone hovering a foot off the ground in the AoE?.

I assume these spells have a 2-D AoE as opposed to a 3-D cube.

Edit Follow-up question: These spells say "ground", could one argue a ceiling or wall counts as the ground if you could walk on them? Since ground isn't technically defined in D&D rules, and the ground is relative to your orientation.
