I spend most of time sitting at a table doing very precise work (e.g. weighing out tiny amounts of sample) that ends up with me all tense and hunched over no matter how hard I try to keep my posture more relaxed. I end up with terrible back pain, especially in my shoulder area but also lower. Lately it’s got to the point that it’s affecting my ability to work and even to sleep properly. I’m under 30 and otherwise relatively healthy so I feel like I shouldn’t be in this much pain.

Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with this? Any specific stretches I can do before/during/after a workday? Or certain positions I could try working in? It’s a small lab so we can’t overhaul major infrastructure, but my PI is willing to spend some money if there’s any equipment (like a better seat?) that would help. I just don’t know what to look for.

Any advice appreciated! Thanks!
