Forced Marching distance rates
When a unit conducted a forced march during the American Civil War, how many extra hours would they typically march? If a typical unit spent say 8 hours marching during a normal march day, how many hours would they march when forced marching?
I'm interested in the rough average, not an extreme case like 62 miles in 26 hours.
At Gettysburg, 6th corp covered 36 miles by marching. They marched 17-19 hours. That may also be an extreme case.
Was 20-30 miles in a day more of a typical forced march? (obviously terrain and weather will factor into speeds)
