Hi all,
Wondering if I should be (or how much should I be) concerned about underbody rust on my 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Phev. In the second owner and are assuming the previous ownr who bought new used it to tow a boat / JetSki in and out of sea water.
Was looking at the tow bar recently and noticed a fair bit of surface rust. Thought that’s not too bad as the units pretty heavy duty metal, figured clean it (wire brush) and rust proof then zinc paint.
That led to looking at more of the underbody though and from what I can see there are a few rust spots around frame and other areas.
When we last got it serviced at a Mitsubishi dealership I enquired on the rusty nuts etc I could see and was assured it wasn’t a problem. Was I getting fobbed off to deny any warranty repairs? I can understand normal wear and tear but is a 3yr old car meant to suffer this much underbody rust (living in a coastal town and assuming the previous owner exposed it to sea water without washing down etc).
