Purely coming from a place of curiosity, I'm seeing lots of cars (jeeps etc) with one or more black ropes hanging from the rear chassis. I am commuting through western Melbourne suburbs so the demographics match with them all being South Asian men. Is this a trend? Religious thing? I'd ask someone in person but I don't know anyone.
