Started great ended with leaving

So context: my mum and i went to see a performance of pride and prejudice at the abbey huge huge fun, and we decided to make a treat of it as like a late birthday present.

We booked a 4-star hotel for the night. We checked in before the performance, and it was lovely. The room was cosy some stains on the rug, but it's a busy hotel and popular. Everything seemed lovely. We got back from the performance and there was an apple (neither of us had brought an apple with us) with bite marks and bits on the floor and our pack of almond croissants (which was unopened prior to the situation) had a dent in it and one was half eaten. We assume it's rats as I found a hole behind the toilet like an obvious hole. I did feel bad for the staff as there was no manager or supervisor on call (it was late), and they had not had such a complaint before. we are waiting for a discussion on a refund. The staff were apologetic unfortunately they had no free rooms, so we went home as we felt uncomfortable with staying. I haven't mentioned the name of the hotel as I'm new to this group so I'm not sure if it's allowed. But this does serve as a good story for awareness of your surroundings, and that stars aren't everything
