Finished firstwatch / rewatch

A few months back, I posted about being halfway through watching the series. My wife had never seen the series, I had seen everything except S18 and newer. We have now finished that run.

I'll break some of it into points.

  • Wife's favorite character was North and favorite season was S13.
  • I used to give the memory unit parts of S9 flack for slowing down the actual plot, but it really had some of the sharpest Blood Gulch humor.
  • My top three is S12 > S6 > S13, but I think I consider S13 objectively the best even if it doesn't win my fave.
  • I always liked the Chorus trilogy BGM, but Trocadero's tracks in Shizno trilogy are quite good too. Found they uploaded all of it a year ago and grabbed some of my favorites. Restoration missing them was very noticeable.
  • Restoration overall was... okay. If it wasn't for the palette cleanser of the Shizno trilogy and what it answered, if it was watch S13 >> Restoration, it would fare much worse. Kinda expected that from what you guys implied. Wife called it 'a last hooray' but not a satisfying end. I've got plenty of my own comments on it, but I'm sure many have said most of what I'd say.
  • Well, okay, one thing. I think the 'erase S14+, start over' aspect of Restoration was not handled well. Trailer helps, but start of Restoration (especially with Andrews' panel and Wash in a hospital) does not make it clear at all what is or isn't canon and it leaves the question hanging too long.
  • Wife commented that the series overall does really well on handling grief. But on the flipside, does really badly with death. There's so many times you have no clue if a death is legitimate or if it'll be reversed later, which eats into some of the weight. Ones where it takes a while to confirm (Meta, confirmed for certain 5 seasons later), there's still a chance despite what others say (the Director, in my opinion), or the death seems... odd (Felix flying off, sword says he's dead, but wife had a lot of issue with that one).
  • We skipped Zero. I remember not liking what I sampled years back, most said skip, so we did.
  • I still love the series and will revisit parts of it again some day.

Got a last ask for you guys. I remember a late series PSA that involved Grif talking to Lopez about why no one else would want to learn Spanish. Any clue which one that is? And any late series PSAs I should dig up? I didn't see many of the ones after Chorus.
