2016 Chevy Malibu Hybrid problem
All the way back in November my Malibu cut off while I was driving. It gave a warning on the dash of reduced engine power, it gave a shift to park error and then a collection of lights on my dash went on then flickered off. My car stuttered to a stop while I was going about 40mph, but it did this very quickly. I did not have much time to pull to the side of the road.
Then it would not turn back on. I tried a few times, every time I tried it turned on for less time before it just wouldn’t turn on. I thought it was a battery issue so a friend tried to help me jump it. It did not work at all so I had it towed.
The repair shop fixed the electrical wiring harness which got it to turn back on fine. They said there was a problem with the acceleration and did a full transmission assembly. This took about a month.
They gave it back and it worked fine for a few days. Then one morning just as I left to go to work it had serious problems accelerating. It was super unresponsive and would not accelerate very fast when it did. I quickly turned around and was able to get it home.
I had it towed back to the repair place as it’s under warranty. They said there is a problem with the transmission and said they warrantied the part. This took a couple months for them to get it and then try. Then they told me the replacement part is also having problems. Now they aren’t giving me a concrete date for when I can expect it to be fixed. They gave me some hopefully and maybes, but it has now been almost 5 months.
I called a local Chevy dealership who told me if it’s a transmission issue it could take months as the parts I would need are back ordered. They referred me to another shop in case I wanted to have the car looked at to see if there is possibly something else going wrong.
Has anyone ever had something similar happen to their Malibu? Or would anyone have any advice on what to do next? At this point I am just playing a waiting game which I don’t feel great about.
