I see in this MSI blog post that many boards support x4+x4+x4+x4 on the first slot. us.msi.com/blog/pcie-lane-bifurcation-and-bandwidth-sharing-on-msi-x870e-x870-motherboards
But I cannot find what happens to the second PCIe slot when doing this? On ASUS boards it seems you pretty lose the second slot entirely when you do it. I'm looking for a configuration that bifurcate that first slot and still leave x8 open on the second slot for a GPU (for boards that support x8 on the second slot like the GODLIKE).
And if not, do the X670E versions do this? I've read that USB4 taking up 4 lanes might be causing bifurcation issues/limitations on X870E. Thanks!
And if this isn't possible then AMD should stop advertising 24 lanes if 20 at best are really usable. 😞
