I’m preparing for the Front Office Tech Ops role at D.E. Shaw (on-campus) and wanted some guidance from people who’ve been through it.

Specifically:

• What topics should I prioritize for the OA? (LC medium DSA? OS? Networking?)
• What kind of questions come in interviews:
  • Debugging real-world issues?
  • System design basics?
  • Scenario-based problem solving?
• Any emphasis on Linux, scripting, or production systems?

Also, how important is speed vs accuracy in OA?

Would love to hear your experience + any prep strategy that worked for you.

My college is expecting D.E. Shaw for campus hiring, and I’m particularly interested in the Front Office Tech Ops role.

I wanted to understand the actual process on campus:

• What does the OA usually consist of? (DSA, CS fundamentals, puzzles, etc.)
• Is it more coding-heavy or more analytical/system-based?
• How many interview rounds are there and what do they focus on?
• Any role-specific questions related to trading systems / markets?

Would really appreciate insights from anyone who went through this role specifically (not just SWE). Thanks!
