Good Editing Basics

I used to think good editing = transitions, effects, and presets.

Turns out… I was completely wrong.

After spending time improving, I realized editing is more about how people feel while watching than what effects you use. These fundamentals helped me improve way faster:

1. Story > Everything
If your video doesn’t have a clear flow, no amount of effects can fix it.
Even a simple video works if it tells something clearly.

2. Cut the Boring Parts (Ruthlessly)
Beginners keep everything. Pros remove aggressively.
If a clip doesn’t add value → delete it.

3. Timing is Everything
Good editing is about when you cut, not just what you cut.
Even a 0.5 sec difference can change how it feels.

4. Sound Matters More Than Visuals
Bad audio = instant drop in retention.
Good sound design (even subtle) makes videos feel “professional”.

5. Keep It Simple
Over-editing kills videos.
Clean cuts + good pacing > flashy effects.

6. Hook in First 2–3 Seconds
If people don’t stop scrolling, nothing else matters.

7. Consistency > Perfection
You don’t need perfect videos. You need consistent uploads.
