Hello!

I am a beginner knitter! I’ve made a few things and want to level up a few different techniques in my next project.

I’m trying to use up a bunch of yarn I already have so decided the next project would be this drops summer sweater because I have enough of the correct yarn for the pattern. https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=10925&cid=17

For the first time ever I actually did a gauge swatch which came out very tight (even though I didn’t think I was a tighter knitter!) pattern gauge is supposed to be 24st x 32r per 10x10cm. My swatch came out at 28st x 40r, and after blocking it and stretching (quite aggressively 😬) it came out at about 25.5 st x 40 r. I did the maths already and know that if I continue on the same needles I will need to knit the next size up for my tension to meet the finished measurements closest to the size I need. The thought of having to do another swatch is making me lose momentum for this project.

My question is: should I knit the next size up on the same needles with my current tension, or do I need to go up a needle size and knit the correct size? And if going up needle size do I go up by 0.5mm or 1mm?
