How much to put down for a house? Partner wants to put down the minimum, I want the maximum
Hi all, My partner (40M) and I are beginning to talk about buying a house together. He has about 350k in net worth and I (35F) have about 325k. Our household salary is 190k per year before taxes. The net worth is divided between TFSAs, RRSP (both maxed out), and non registered savings/mutual funds. We are looking at houses in the 600-800k range. My partner thinks we should put down the minimum down payment, e.g. 10-20%, and keep the rest in our investments. I was thinking we should put down ~50% to reduce biweekly costs.
Any advice?
Also, if it matters, we also both have government pensions. We also are expecting each of our parents to give us at least 50 k (so collectively 100k+) . We are also not married yet but will be common law (1 year together) soon and want to start trying for a kid in the next year or so
