Half the people giving advice on used cars tell you to "take it to a mechanic" before buying, but I've never actually seen instructions on how to approach that.
I don't have my own mechanic on speed dial. How do I find one that does inspections? Just call around?
How does this conversation usually go with the dealer? Do you just say I need the car for a couple of days to have it inspected? Will they always let you take it?
