Hi all,
I need advice on wether to inform insurer or not?
Description of incident is below, basically, it wasn't my fault, the incident was a couple of weeks ago and I didn't immediately report as I was waiting for info from police and assessing if I could fix damage myself. Have since discovered cracked coolant overflow tank, cracked oil pan, and am figuring that there is most likely internal damage as I keep finding more things the more I dig.
There is a police report, there is a witness (in my favour), I have the license plate of the driver who caused accident and left the scene.
This is however, my FIRST YEAR riding and I've only had my license for three months. So if I report this, it's going to fuck my premiums basically. What do I do? Take the hit and get it inspected/pay privately for repairs? Or claim on my insurance and basically give up riding as it will be unnafordable to get a new bike.
Incident description:
I was riding up a major road; oncoming traffic was stationary. Driver pulled out from minor road , blocking my lane. No braking distance available. Oncoming lane is stationary due to traffic and driver who pulled out Infront of me was trying to force their way in. I swerved into a tiny gap near a stationary oncoming motorcycle to avoid T-boning the car and most likely landing on my head/neck. Clipped second bike, lost balance; my motorcycle flipped and slid far up the road, launching me off too. Afte accident bike was leaking coolant and lying on side.
The other rider is a witness and will corroborate that the driver is responsible. Driver fled despite being aware and confronted by bystanders at a red light, I have a crime reference number from police who attended the scene, and I was taken to hospital in an ambulance. I chose the swerve as the safest alternative to a direct head-on. Wearing full protective gear, but sustained significant concussion and soft tissue injuries anyway.
Happened in England, sorry for poor formatting any advice is appreciated
