Hi everyone,
I just finished a complete overhaul of the Z-axis on my Kondia B-1050, and I wanted to share the progress. It was a long road, but the machine is finally back to (better than) factory specs.
What was done during the rebuild:
Mechanicals: Full ballscrew replacement and new drive belts.
Spindle: Complete spindle replacement and precision alignment to ensure it’s perfectly square/parallel.
Electronics & Feedback: New linear scale (Heidenhain) installed and aligned parallel to the travel.
Motors: Full refurbishment of the axis motors.
Aesthetics: Every single part was stripped and repainted before reassembly.
Parameter Tuning: Re-configured the machine parameters, specifically setting the soft limits for Z-axis max travel (positive and negative) to protect the new components.
The machine feels incredibly tight and quiet now. Setting up the linear scale and the spindle parallelism took some patience, but the geometry is now spot on.
It was a crazy journey to me
