PSA: Do NOT use alcohol on a pad-printed dial

Just a friendly warning. I had a dial custom made. installing it, I wanted to make sure it was perfectly clean. I put some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and began cleaning the dial. When I got to the printed portion, the color began to come off. Fortunately, not enough to be noticeable so I didn’t ruin the dial.

I’ve done three builds, one for me and two as gifts. My thanks to those who said build versus buy because the recipients have been blown away that I built their gifts.

My two pain points have been bending hands on installation and cutting stems to the wrong length. On the hands, I’ve started using the daub of Rodico on the tip of the pusher method. That’s helped immensely.

On the stems, I only have a plastic, manual caliper. If I buy a digital one, any recommendations? I’ve watched the project farm video and have a Neiko in my cart.

I’ve also seen a post regarding using rodico to create an imprint to measure from. I may try that in the interim.

The crowns I’m using are screw down with the spring. Exactly what am I measuring: top of the case threads to the bottom of the crown? Or to the bottom of the crown threads? Or some other spot?
