Problem: The new growth is distorted/damaged on almost every bush in my hedge. I am seeking a diagnosis to understand if this is a disease, pest, or environmental stress.
Species: Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) Location: Outdoors (Hedge)
Supporting Information:
- Light: The plants get approximately 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day (full sun).
- Watering: I have a drip irrigation system, but due to the weather, I have only used it twice so far this year.
- Weather: It has been an exceptionally windy spring, with much stronger winds than usual.
- Fertilizer: I applied ICL Osmocote fertilizer 2 weeks ago and watered it in thoroughly. No other chemicals or treatments have been used.
Any help identifying the cause would be greatly appreciated! (Photos attached)
Additional info for context:
- Aspect: South-facing / full sun exposure.
- Climate: Central Europe (can be prone to late spring frosts and dry winds).
- Soil: Clay-based soil, but well-drained.
I'm mostly worried that the wind combined with the recent fertilization might be the cause, or perhaps a fungal issue. Any thoughts?
