I need help with kitchen lighting re: peninsula
We are removing our overhead cabinets above the peninsula and plan to put a low-profile hood up there instead. We are also getting new cabinets. The layout is essentially the same.
- Does anyone really like their low-profile or recessed hood?
- We are flummoxed about how to light this room.
It’s about 14’ x 16’, and that includes a kitchen area and (our only) dining area.
Do we put two pendant lights on either side of the hood? Where do we put the recessed lights, in terms of ambient light? Should they be aligned with the sides of the peninsula? On the edge of the cooking side of the peninsula but further out in the dining side? Or just grid on the ceiling?
We were thinking of 4” ones instead of 6” because our ceiling is 8’ and feels lower than that. I’ve heard those are supposed to be about 4 feet apart, but from what starter reference point?
Also - should we put a central overhead light over the dining area? There currently is one, but it doesn’t work. Or just take that out and put in recessed lights over there, too?
We need to tell the electrician and contractor where we want the wires to go to on the ceiling and don’t know what we’re doing.
The rendered drawing does not have the hood up there.
Thank you!
