It was crazy work how Slim was telling the story in the car and they were doing the sound effects in the background. His man got merked over some money for a $2 train ticket. And they did him EXTRA filthy.
Stack was spitting bars when he was promoting Club Juke.
"Y'all ready to eat (Yeah)/Y'all ready to drink ? (Yeah)/ Y'all ready to sweat till y'all stink ? We gonna get it funky like a Mississippi donkey!"
When Annie said "Put the cigarette down and you can hold her...I don't want any of that smoke on her" it was a double entendre. That signified that she wanted Elijah, the husband and father, not Smoke the gangster.
No excuses, no justifications....Grace ruined it for everyone by inviting the vampires in. They could have just waited it out until sunrise.
There were several anachronisms in the movie. The first is when Stack says "For us, by us." (Reference to the FUBU clothing line.) The other is by Smoke..."We gave your mama plenty of flowers while she was still alive to smell'em." Smoke also uses another one when he says "This ain't no house party" while mentioning the financial woes of Club Juke. The final one is a newly turned Cornbread talking about "It be your own people."
Get ready for a whole bunch of little girls named Mary and Annie. Also, dogs named Smoke, Stack, and Great Danes named Delta Slim. There might even be some Remmicks in the mix. Also, there may be a whole lot of Elijahs and Eliases when twin boys are born.
