Special Leave

May I know if I am eligible to take 2 days special leave for a pre planned surgery my spouse is having next month. Will it come under family illness. It says under description as

“In the case of the illness or hospitalization of your spouse or a dependent child, paid leave up to a maximum of three days at any one time for BCGEU employees and two days at any one time for BCNU employees can be requested when no one at the employee's home other than the employee can provide for their needs. “

Was wondering if thats only for emergency sickness or can be taken for pre planned surgery and hospitalization?

I recently received a notice from Fraser Health Authority saying I was overpaid for a sick leave I took about 2 years ago. They’re saying I wasn’t eligible at that time, but it was still paid (7.5 hours), and now they want around $180 back.

The thing is, I don’t even work there anymore, and I’m confused why this is coming up after so long. I had no idea there was any issue back then.

I’m also not in a great position financially right now, so paying this back suddenly is a bit stressful.

Has anyone dealt with something like this?
Is there any way to dispute it or ask them to waive/reduce it given the delay?

I need some advice. I went into an H&R Block office today to file my taxes. I have some self-employment income from rideshare, and the lady helping me didn't seem very knowledgeable about it, Kept on asking me whether you need to claim any expenses as its a lot of work.

Even though I had all my numbers ready with slips, they insisted I put everything into an Excel sheet/template for their own documentation. Even though I am asked to do all that, they quoted me $500+ for the filing.

I felt overcharged and uncomfortable with the preparer's expertise, so I walked out before we finished or submitted anything.

My concerns:

  1. They don't have my payment info, but they have my address, email, and tax details.

  2. I signed some documents at the very beginning before we started the file. I didn't read them as thoroughly as I should have because I fully intended to file with them at the time.

  3. Does that initial signature usually include an agreement to pay for "work performed" even if I don't end up filing through them?

Has anyone else walked out mid-process? Will they try to send me a bill or send it to collections? I'm in BC, Canada if that changes any specific regulations.
