Hi all, new therapist here (M37). I will be licensed in the next couple of months as an LPC. Still a lot to learn but I love this profession.

I've noticed that I tend to do well with certain types of clients, and not just certain presenting issues. For example, most of my clientele are male (that is not intentional but it just tends to end up that way), and they tend to be 30+ years old. I've have clients younger than 30, but not typically. Rapport feels easier on both sides with 30+ year old male clients, it seems, but being male and over 30 is not the only factor. I've also noticed that certain characteristics with clients can feel more difficult. For example, clients who are type A and driven feel more difficult to connect and establish rapport with.

Obviously we can't deny clients based on characteristics unless it gets in the way of good care, but I wondered if other therapists out there feel similarly, and if so, how they navigate client characteristics and whether that factors into marketing for the "ideal" caseload overtime. ...If there is any such thing as an "ideal" caseload.

Hopefully that makes sense.
