Prior to the introduction of major land based empires such as the Ottomans and the Qing, the Mongols ruled the largest land based empire spanning from Europe to Asia. During a period of time called the Pax Mongolica trade flourished greatly through numerous routes such as the Silk Road and Indian Ocean trade. Many nations involved in this trade chose to remain peaceful during this time to escalate trade relationships. Once the Mongol rule fell, it opened many opportunities for large competing land empires to grow and flourish. Rulers of land based empires employed similar methods to legitimize their rule such through art, architecture, taxes and military conquests. The Qing Empire is a great example of rulers emphasizing art to legitimize their rule. The Qing Empire which was ruled by the Manchu helped was bound to get into disputes with the original ethically Han people. The emperor at the time would hang portraits all around the empire of him next to Confucian books. This gave the people that were ethnically Han reassurance that their ruler was capable of controlling the empire. By doing this, it led to a period of continuity in the empire where they were able to remain peaceful. The Mughals, who were located near present day India developed a library called the House of Wisdom. This library held many books from around the world. Books were often translated into the language Arabic to allow the community to learn new ideas that came from different areas such as information from Greek Philosopher’s such as Aristotle. This library legitimized their rule by making a place where people from all around the globe came to learn. Further East was another Muslim Empire called the Ottomans. The government would tax non Muslims, which allowed them protection under the law. This was called Jizya tax and was a way to legitimize their rule and show their control of the people. Another thing the Ottomans did was take over nearby Christian territories. After taking over the people they would make the convert to Islam and ultimately make them join a army. This strong army was called the Janissaries and was only made up of Muslim reverts. By creating this it showed their dominance in the area and their ability to control populations. This caused the Ottomans dominance and allowed them to expand their territory. Lastly in the Americas the Aztecs made major trading areas where lots of different local items were traded through there.

this is a practice LEQ I wrote for this prompt. Evaluate the extent to which rulers of land-based empires employed similar methods to legitimize their rule in the period from 1450 to 1750.

I graded with ChatGPT and it says I got a 4. what can I do better or add. Also I dont udnerstand how to use continuity and change or caause and effect to format my LEQ. I NEED HELP PLSSS
