Hi everyone,

I'm well aware that Valve stated when the SM was announced that the goal was to sell it at the price of a comparable entry-level PC and not at a loss like consoles, but the scenario has changed completely and prices have risen significantly.

If it were to cost $850 or more, how many people, and more importantly, who, could afford this console?

In my opinion, very few, far fewer than Steam Deck, considering that the latter offered a unique experience.

I therefore wonder whether Valve is at least considering now the possibility of making a compromise on the price, selling it at a loss like consoles, in order to at least keep it around the original price that was planned before the RAM and SSD crisis.

This, in addition to boosting sales, would be an important signal to consumers and Steam enthusiasts.

They would certainly lose money, but they would surely gain in reputation, which for a store is crucial, and i think it would be more efficent in the long run.

On the other hand, if the SM were to cost over $800, that would be a really significant sum and I don't see a very bright future for the SM unfortunately.
