AJ1 MOCHA RSD & CVW

Hello everyone, Dogs!

I’d like to start by saying that this is my first comparative review. I’ve been in the rep world for a few years, but I’ve only recently joined this amazing community, so forgive me if there are any mistakes in communication or analysis.

This review is purely subjective and based solely on the pairs I personally received. Differences between pairs can sometimes be significant, so please keep that in mind while reading.

I also want to make an important disclaimer: the photos were taken indoors under warm white artificial lighting (classic 3000K LED lights). This type of lighting tends to add a bit more saturation to “cool-toned” objects, so it may slightly affect the leather color appearance.

With that said, here are my personal impressions, focusing on the aspects that truly matter to me on this model.

  • CVW: Weidian + Mulebuy — around $155 shipped (give or take)
  • RSD: RSD + PV — around $120 shipped (give or take)

I won’t talk about the buying or shipping experience. Personally, the only thing I care about is that the shoes arrive, not how long they take. With CVW, I didn’t experience all the difficulties people talk about online. With RSD, I had to wait a bit longer, but considering it was a new release, I assume PV had an enormous number of orders to handle.

LEATHER

Color

Depending on lighting and angles, the effect can vary quite a lot — but everyone already knows that.

CVW leans slightly toward an ashier tone and stays a bit more “grey,” and in this case the warm lighting I mentioned earlier definitely helps it. RSD, on the other hand, leans more toward brown and has a warmer-looking leather overall.

Movement

Both use premium materials, and that’s immediately noticeable.

CVW uses a shorter-haired nubuck: the movement and color variation are there, but they’re more subtle. In certain situations, it can appear slightly flatter and less three-dimensional.

RSD, however, used a truly impressive nubuck: longer hair, livelier texture, and an incredibly soft touch.

TOEBOX & TOE SHAPE

CVW has a clean shape, fairly slim compared to most other batches, and overall very balanced.

But RSD did something that, personally, I had never seen before: an extremely slim toe shape, exactly the kind many of us had been hoping for.

I used to think CVW had the best toebox and toe shape on the market, but RSD absolutely nailed it here and surpassed CVW in this area.

Both are excellent, but if you prefer a slimmer silhouette, RSD currently has the edge.

HEEL EMBROIDERY & INNER STAMP

Both are very well done, and there are no truly obvious differences.

The only thing I noticed is that RSD’s inner stamp appears slightly more three-dimensional, while CVW’s looks a little flatter — but we’re really talking about very minor details.

OVERALL SHAPE

Since I don’t have a retail pair available for direct comparison, I can only speak based on my personal impressions.

RSD has a longer and slimmer overall silhouette, while CVW feels fuller and bulkier. I can’t say which one is closer to retail, but once on foot, I aesthetically prefer RSD, whereas I find CVW more comfortable, even if it looks slightly less appealing when worn.

One thing I really don’t like about CVW is the sizing: my US 10.5 / EU 44.5 fits almost like a 44. The overall length of the shoe is also about 4–5 mm shorter compared to RSD. It honestly makes me wonder whether CVW even produces true half sizes.

RSD, on the contrary, feels slightly roomier than a typical 44.5 (LJR), perhaps due to less internal padding, but that’s just my personal impression.

REVERSE SWOOSH

Both are well positioned and correctly executed — nothing to criticize here.

If I absolutely had to pick a winner on this detail, though, CVW comes out ahead.

OVERALL QUALITY

This comes as no surprise: CVW is extremely strong when it comes to stitching and overall precision. Differences between the left and right shoe are minimal, and manufacturing flaws are almost nonexistent. It’s a very clean job… maybe even too clean.

RSD, on the other hand, feels a little less “perfect.” There are small differences between the left and right shoe and a few minor production imperfections. Ironically, though, this actually makes it feel more authentic to people looking for a realistic retail-like appearance.

The most noticeable flaw on RSD — and probably the thing that bothers me the most — is a slightly boxy shape on the toe area of the right shoe. In my pair, however, it still remains absolutely acceptable.

PERSONAL CONCLUSIONS

I’ll be honest: I was very skeptical when I first saw the early RSD QCs. I felt like something looked off in the photos circulating online.

At the same time, like many others, I was convinced that CVW represented the absolute best you could ask for.

I was wrong.

In hand, RSD is genuinely impressive. CVW is still a beautiful shoe, but overall, RSD — at least for me — delivers a better on-foot feeling and a more convincing overall presence.

There’s still a lot more that could be said, but I think it makes more sense to let the photos speak and allow everyone to form their own opinion.

No AJ1 Travis Scott Mocha Low was harmed during this review. 😄
