Been seeing a lot of posts comparing CZ and lab diamonds so wanted to share what I know about why they age so differently.
CZ and lab diamonds are completely different materials. Lab diamond is pure carbon, identical to a mined stone just grown in a lab. CZ is zirconium dioxide. That difference matters more than most people realize.
CZ sits around 8.5 on the Mohs scale while diamond is a 10. That gap means everyday dust and fabric is hard enough to microscratch CZ over time, scattering light instead of reflecting it. CZ is also more porous, so lotions and skin oils get trapped in those scratches and accelerate the clouding. Diamond doesn't have this problem because almost nothing in daily life is hard enough to scratch it.
This is why a CZ ring worn daily will almost always cloud up within a couple of years, while a lab diamond worn the same way looks identical a decade later. Not a knock on CZ since it has its place, but if you are looking for something for everyday wear long term, the difference is significant.
