Trying to branch my Tineki

I have been trying to branch my tineki for quite a while now. First notch I did was in last fall, two more in March. The plant has been sitting outside for last month and a half, so is getting plenty of light.
Is cutting it the only way for it to branch?
If so,

  1. I was wondering if now is the time to cut, so it grows well through the summer?
  2. I have also read some stories about it growing single branches too even if cut from the top! Is it worth the shot or should I just let it be?
I have repotted it this spring, it gets tones of light.
