Hello.
I just wanted to make this post to remind everyone who is treating for lyme and co, whether you use herbs or abx, to use binders in your protocol.
People dealing with lyme and co usually also become sensitive more easily to internal and environmental toxins ( like mold and mycotoxins or the dead bacteria/parasites).. I suppose it's these infections interrupting mitochondria, organ function, gut health or something, but it appears many people with lyme or chronic illness become toxic more easily and have a harder time eliminating these toxins..
Here is where binders can really make a big difference.. Yes, they too can actually make you feel a "flare" of sorts at first.. because binders usually start pulling more toxins from storage places in your body and put them into your circulation where you can briefly re-experience their acute toxic effect ( hence increased fatigue, some aches and pains, even mental stuff).. but overtime, they can really take a burden off of your body as less stored toxins means your body and all its systems will start to function better..
Good binders= bentonite clay, zeolite, activated charcoal, chlorella, modified citrus pectin, psyllium husk, chitosan, humic and fulvic acid, even probiotics are known to bind some mycotoxins..
They are usually best taken away from foods, like on an empty stomach in the morning or in the evening before bed.. You can switch them up ( different binders can bind to different toxins), use a few of them together.. as you like it...
Some of them can be a bit constipating ( bentonite, charcoal..) , so drink enough water and maybe take some magnesium oxide.. also start with 1/2 teaspoon and see what you can tolerate..
I was treating for the 3 B's with herbs for a few months and I was overlooking the binders a bit... well, they've been making a big difference since I introduced them daily next to my herbal treatment.
A good document on what binders bind to what kind of toxins= https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1M7ArK6YB_Mzg-uuATksdTAZ-EFuh5iG25SwmypGZt-o/mobilebasic#ftnt_ref160
EDIT= fibrin nests and biofilms, that's also big reason why treatment of infection and elimination of toxins gets hampered with lyme... Next post or better yet, somebody else just posted it= " importance of lumbrokinase ( and perhaps other biofilm/fibrin dissolvers)..
EDIT 2= binders work by binding to toxins that are releases with the bile from the gallbladder, which happens after a fatty meal or snack.. Bile usually gets reabsorbed in the colon ( enterohepatic cycle), but unfortunately, with the bile also the fat soluble toxins in the bile... The things that stops this toxic loop is binders, as binders bind to the toxins released in and by the bile into the colon. It's important to look after liver health/bile flow, as it's your body's pathway to release fat-soluble toxins!!
