[Tomb Raider: Remastered] #100
A bit of a story with this one. I love collecting platinums and it took a while to get to #100 because I don’t usually play games just for the platinum. Once I reached #95 I started thinking about what I wanted to play for #100. One of the first games I ever played back on my dad’s first PC was Tomb Raider: Legend. I loved that game so much despite getting stuck on the first level that I’d keep replaying the first section in Bolivia leading up to the first big puzzle. I eventually figured it out and I remember the feeling of absolute pride I had in myself then.
I played Anniversary soon after that. I would go on to replay both of these games multiple times on a hand-me-down PS2 and then a PS3 as well; despite them being very close to my heart, I didn’t know till embarrassingly recently that Anniversary was a remake of the first TR! I already platinumed the Anniversary and Legend versions available on the PS Store now (please play these games if you haven’t already) and I also already have the platinums on the latest reboots, save for the first one which has an online grind I don’t want to bother with.
So that left me with only one choice- the game that the remake was based on! Lo and behold, TR Remastered 1-3 came to PS Plus and I knew it had to be the 100th. The controls took some getting used to (the modern control scheme is actually pretty intuitive) and once they clicked, MAN I had so much fun with this game! I got the platinum in 4 full playthroughs and I had a blast pretty much the entire time. Despite never having played the original previous to this, I had a weird sense of nostalgia retrospectively from playing the remake so much. I loved playing where it all started and now I know what all they changed in Anniversary as well!
It’s been such a journey as a gamer and a person from playing Anniversary the first time as a kid to where I am now. I can’t think of a more fitting game for the 100th platinum.
TL;DR- loved the game because I loved the remake way back when, made me kinda emotional to look back.
