Advice on sprained ankle and workers comp
Hey, all! I sprained my ankle at work on Monday. I was just walking and rolled it and tripped. Went to urgent care and they said it was sprained, I now have a boot and crutches. I was also able to rent a knee scooter.
The PA at urgent care told me I could just keep working, since I'm a vet receptionist, and didn't give me any time off. However, I am finding that having to accommodate for my sprained ankle is exacerbating my POTS symptoms. I need to bend down to take care of my ankle, which is my worst trigger. The boot and crutches make mobility so much harder which shoots up my heart rate and makes my symptoms flare. Just leaving my apartment building is extremely difficult and painful. I can barely feed myself or make it to the bathroom.
I've also almost slipped at work already. It's only a matter of time until I fall again, honestly. I do still have to stand and walk for my job a lot, and the floor type we have at my job is slippery. My coworkers are being so accommodating and supportive but it's still not enough.
Should I push for time off until I've healed a bit? I thought, well everyone works with sprained ankles and worse orthopedic injuries. But I didn't account for my POTS making it harder. I feel bad even asking 😭
