Understanding the Black Templars Hierarchy
Brothers! I've been trying to make sense of the Black Templar Hierarchy and how it differs from the standard Space Marine structure using older posts on Reddit, the fandom wiki, the lexicanum wiki, and the descriptions of sets on the Warhammer website. This is a (simplified) visualization of what I believe to be it (I'm a visual learner and enjoy making such charts).
I'd be happy for your feedbacks to make sure I'm understanding things correctly, after which I'll update this chart. Feel free to ignore the pauldron and helmet designs, those are just a way for me to visualize units (for example for the BT Combat Patrol), and I do so knowing there are many variations of pauldrons (I'm also not a fan of black on red and would rather paint the helmets different colors).
- I knowingly omitted the Veteran 'rank' (if it is even a rank), since it seems that a Veteran is more of a title that can be given with time to a Sword Brother, Castellan or Marshal.
- I'm confused that there seems to be a gap between Sword Brother and Castellan, since from my knowledge of the NATO-standardized structure, Lieutenants lead Platoons and not Companies - Companies are led by Captains. So did I miss something or is this how things work in this universe? I just find it odd that Crusades are led by Marshals that are equivalent to other Space Marine Captains and the next level below them are Companies led by Lieutenant-equivalents with nothing between this and squads. Though given a Crusade can have just a few hundred Templars, I can see how such a reduced structure works.
- Is there an in-lore word for 'NCO' and the other categories?
You have my gratitude!
