Looking for some "Big Picture" perspective on my chances for the upcoming Non-Rated board (August). I’m banking on the AF as a career launchpad and want to know if my STEM degrees and fitness can carry my package.
The Stats:
Age: 31 (Black Male)
Degrees: BS Mechanical Engineering (Georgia Southern) & BS Aviation Science/Management (MGA).
GPA: (2.61) (I know it’s on the lower side).
AFOQT: P: 26, C: 53, A: 23, AA: 27, V: 28, Q: 24.
Fitness: Just did an Evolt scan—11.6% Body Fat at 6’2” / 210 lbs. Maxing out the PT standards for my age bracket.
Work Experience: Field Engineer at Norfolk Southern, Process Engineer at PCC Airfoils, and Maintenance Coordination.
AFSCs: 62E (Dev Engineer), 63A (Acquisitions), 32E (Civil Engineer).
The Hurdles:
Waivers: Requiring an RE-Code waiver (prior service) and a Morals waiver (old issue). Recruiter is submitting them "back-end" after potential selection.
Test Scores: Obviously low Quant/Academic Aptitude for a 62E.
The Narrative:
I’ve got strong LORs from a current Lt, a former Colleague, and Professors. I’m a "big picture" guy who excels at bridging the gap between technical teams and operations.
Question:
Does the AF’s need for Engineers/Acquisitions officers in 2026 outweigh my lower AFOQT scores and the waiver requirements? Or should I be looking at a civilian pivot back to GA aerospace?
