Honda CB77 missing chain on oil slinger
Good morning. I am helping a friend with his 1966 CB77 and I am by far no expert. We took apart the left side of the engine and were checking out everything and happened to notice that there was no chain on the “oil slinger”. I was quite surprised by this because I understand this is what little is done to clean the engine oil. I understand that the oil pump is lower in the engine as expected so I assume the engine has developed pressure but I wonder if the oil slinger has any function in directing the oil throughout the engine.
I have seen the Keep on Wrenching video about the location of the washer on the oil slinger.
The interior of the oil slinger is perfectly clean. I am concerned about what would happen if the oil slinger was not turning.
Are there other things we should check before buying a new chain and reassembling?
Are there well known places where the engine may accumulate crud?
