I was going through the drive through at a fast food joint and got caught up behind this goose family. There were two adults (I assume mom and dad) and three babies. The one baby couldn’t make it a few steps before falling over, or falling over on his back and his legs flapping wildly in the air. It looked kind of like a wobbly cat if you are familiar with those. It’s like he couldn’t control his body. He was at risk of being run over in the drive through. I called animal control as soon as I saw him, but he was inching closer and closer to where the cars were driving, so a nice man helped me distract the parents and we scooped him up. He was exhausted (second pic) he wasn’t really fighting me. He was alert to noises and was still breathing but so so tired. His breathing was also very shallow and rapid. I tried to get him to drink some water and I let him rest in the shade until the animal control officer showed up to take him to the vet. The animal control officer did not seem to think he would make it.

Did I do the right thing calling animal control and taking the baby from his parents? As soon as we picked him up the parents left him and I just feel so bad. What if he wasn’t injured and was just tired from walking? It did seriously look like something was wrong with him.
