NEWBIE: Order of Installation for Proxmox box + NVMe DAS over USB4?

Total newbie to Proxmox. This is for a Home Lab for personal fun.

Just got a mini-PC and am waiting on a DAS box that will hold 4x 4TB NVMe drives. I plan to have the DAS serve as storage for the VMs and LXCs for Proxmox connected over USB4.

Hopefully what I am saying makes sense?

How do I set this up?

  1. Install Proxmox first?
  2. Then setup RAID10 on the DAS?
  3. Then connect them?
  4. Or does Proxmox configure the DAS as RAID10?

Thanks in advance

I have 4 4TB NVMe SSD Drives. Should I buy an external NAS for my GEEKOM Proxmox mini PC and connect over ethernet?

As the title says, I have 4x 4TB NVMe SSD Drives. Should I get an external NAS and connect it to my GEEKOM mini PC over its 2.5Gbe NIC?

Should I buy a 10Gbe NIC for my GEEKOM mini PC and connect it using that?

How much storage is typically needed for Proxmox?

What do most people do?

Is 32GB enough for Proxmox for a Home Lab?

I finally got around to booting up my GEEKOM A8 Max. When Win 11 started, it said it had 32GB (I thought it had 16GB).

I really have no idea what I plan to do, but certainly run a Linux distro or two, and probably install a K3s cluster.

FYI:

  • Home Assistant is already running on its own dedicated little box I bought from them
  • And AdGuard Home is running on one of my old Rasbperry Pi 4s.

So, is 32GB enough?
