Does anyone ever think about how most of the Waynes have black hair, but it's probably different kinds of black??? One of the interesting things about the color black in hair/fur/feathers/scales is that in certain lights and from certain angles, you can see undertones of other colors, ranging anywhere from red to purple to brown and everything in between. In fiction, a person's hairstyle and hair color can say a lot about who they are, where they come from, and their emotional state before they even open their mouth, so with that in mind, the specifics of the Wayne family's hair color become interesting.
Duke, Cass, and Dick probably all have more brownish undertones because they have warmer personalities, but also because of ethnicity when it comes to Duke and Dick (African American and Eastern European/Romani). Tim and Bruce both have more blue-green or green-blue (there is a difference because one is more blue than green, and the other is more green than blue) because they have more closed-off and calculating personalities, but also because they're pale as shit and remind me of ravens or crows.
Damian's undertones are a bit more iffy than the others because he has the potential for the warmer brown undertones that Dick, Duke, and Cass have because of his Arabic ethnicity, but also the potential for the cooler greens, blues, and purples that Tim and Bruce have because of his personality. I'd say his hair probably has a mix of the cooler colors and warmer browns because of those two facts (these are fictional people in a fictional world, so this is possible in a fictional sense), and which one you see is based on lighting and angle.
Jason is where it gets rather interesting because of some of the conflicting parts of his backstory in some runs, personal headcanons of some fans, and how his personality changed from before-death to after-death. I say Jason's hair actually has red undertones with hints of green; he has a fiery personality, but is also somewhat closed off and can be quite cold & calculating like Tim & Bruce sometimes, while also being warm like Duke, Dick, and Cass. Also, the red undertones can act as some of his natural red-headedness (I like the "Jason had red hair but dyed it black" thing) shining through under all that black.
When you add Stephanie and Barbara into the mix, you also get a lot of interesting information just from hair style and color alone.
Blondes, especially females, are often associated with cheerfulness and activity. In fiction, the brighter the blonde, and the more yellow, the brighter the person (but getting too bright where it gets almost white or silver often signifies someone cold, closed-off, and calculating). This fits well with Stephanie; she's bright and cheerful and fun, like a summer day. She fits really well into how blondes are often used in fiction.
Barbara is fiery, defiant, and intelligent with a bit of a mean streak; she's the kind of person you don't want to cross... but she's also bright and cheerful, a good friend to have. This fits extremely well with both of the common depictions of redheads in fiction: fiery devil-person and sunshine friend.
When you zoom out, you end up with something along these lines:
The Waynes (black hair) = depth, shadow, internal complexity
Steph (blonde) = external energy, emotional brightness
Barbara (red) = controlled intensity, balance between heart and mind
But you can also read it as something like this...
Steph: What you see is what you get
Barbara: You see enough, but not everything
The Waynes: How they feel is something you have to guess at and will likely get wrong
