I (M32) am in an open/polyamorous relationship with my spouse (F34). We are super close, been together since kids essentially and it’s just what we need in our relationship to meet emotional and physical needs that the other can’t complete.

So we date outside the marriage, with full transparency.

I met this wonderful woman (F32) who’s personality is very much like mine. (Come to find out I’m older than her by a few hours.)

We have a wonderful time together dating, intimacy, the works. At first she was completely fine with me being in an open marriage… Until she wasn’t.

Last week she told me she was pursuing a monogamous relationship with someone. I do wish her happiness, and I understand I don’t lead a traditional life.

I’ve only ever truly loved a very few people in this life. (Family included) She was one of them.

My greedy self just wishes she’d conform to my dynamic so we can continue on. But of course, I love her, and so I respect her wishes.

A week later and I’m sitting here listening to Opeth like it’s the only musical act on earth. I’ve always liked them, but now, the feeling is different. I appreciate the music and lyricism a lot more now.

I think I’m experiencing my first ever romantic heart break.
