I think I’ve officially been burned by the Rule of Cool, and I’m wondering if anyone else has had this "buyer's remorse" with their army's playstyle.
I started Nighthaunt because, frankly, they look incredible. I loved the Soul Wars era vibe, and the models are some of the best sculpts in the range. But after a handful of games with the new book, I’m struggling to find the "fun."
The Frustration
Zero Impact: It feels like nothing in the army actually does damage. I’ll pull off a perfect charge, and then... nothing happens.
Boring Mechanics: An 8" move and Army-wide Fly is nice on paper, but it doesn’t make up for the fact that most units feel like they have no teeth.
The "Stormcast" Comparison: I used to play Stormcast Eternals, and I really miss that "Swiss Army Knife" feel. With SCE, even if a unit wasn't top-tier, it felt like it had a specific job and could actually perform it. Every unit felt useful.
Where I'm At
Right now, the army just feels hollow. I’m moving models around the board, but I don't feel like I'm actually playing the game—I'm just waiting to be removed from the table.
Has anyone else felt this way about Nighthaunt lately? Did you find a way to make them feel impactful, or is it time to admit that the "Rule of Cool" led me into a playstyle I just plain dislike?
