my dogs eyes leak a lot?

not sure if its grooming or general care but here we go.

english isnt my native language and honestly i dont know if leak is the right word here, but my 6 year old schipperke (whos turning 7) is a very healthy and active girl. still acts exactly like she did as a puppy.

her eyes have always been very moist and leak-y, and they get gunk easily. no vet has ever considered this bad or a health issue, its just something she has, but im wondering if there are ways i can help clean her eyes from the gunk? up until now i tend to either wet a small towel (*gently) with lukewarm water and dampen her eyes and wipe them, or i take her in my arms, pour lukewarm water on my hand and use my fingers - which i think she prefers? she puts her ears back and doesnt try to leave, looks pretty happy. i think it might simulate a moms grooming? - to wipe her eyes.

it doesnt bother her other than when theres some buildup of gunk, at which point she licks her paws and tries to get it off herself (and fails. i love her to bits but that dog does not know how to do it.)

is there a better way? like, would wet cotton wipes work better for example? can i prevent build up by wiping her face and eyes daily / every couple days? usually i only do it once i see a bit of gunk or dried water around her eyes.

again, this isnt dangerous or a health issue, no vet has been concerned, its just a quirk of hers. i just wanna know if i could do something better to help.
